List of computer hardware

Computer hardware refers to the physical components that make up of a computer system. There are many different kinds of hardware that can be installed inside and connected to outside of a computer. Here are we discussing some common computer hardware components that are often found inside a modern computer.

  • SMPS
  • Motherboard
  • Add - on Cards
  • Hard Drive (HDL)
  • Solid - State Drive (SSD)
  • Optical Drive (e. G, BD / DVD / VCD drive)
  • Card Reader (SD / SDHC, CF, etc.)

SMPS

SMPS stands for switch-mode power supply. It is the power supply unit of a computer system. Its job is to convert wall - voltage AC power to lower voltage DC power. Most computer chips require modern computers. 2 - 3. 3V, with some older devices requiring between 5 - 12V DC. - SMPS Motherboard Add - on Cards Hard Drive (HDL) Solid - State Drive (SSD) • Optical Drive (e. Motherboard

motherboard

A motherboard is the main printed circuit board (PCB) found in general-purpose microcomputers and other expandable systems. It holds and allows communication between a number of important electronic components, such as a central processing unit (CPU) and memory, and other peripherals for connectors. The motherboard serves as a single platform to connect all the parts of a computer. It connects the CPU, memory, hard drives, optical drives, video card, sound card, and other ports and expansion cards directly or via cables. It can be considered the backbone of a computer.

Features of Motherboard

  • Motherboard varies greatly in supporting various types of components
  • Motherboard supports a single type of CPU and fewer types of memory.
  • Video cards, hard disks, sound cards have to be compatible with the motherboard to function properly.
  • Motherboards, cases, and power supplies must be working together to be compatible.

The most popular manufacturers of the motherboard are Intel, ASUS, AOpen, ABIT, Biostar; Gigabyte and MSI.

Add - on Cards

add on card

An add - on is a hardware unit that can be added to a computer to increase its capabilities or a program utility that enhances a primary program. The most commonly used add-on cards are Network Card, Sound Card, Expansion Card and Display Card.

Network Card

network card

A Network interface card, NIC, or Network card is an electronic device that connects to a computer network, usually a LAN. This is considered a piece of computer hardware. The LAN card is fixed on the motherboard expansion slots. Some LAN Cards also contains a report on them. Some network cards do not use a cable to connect to the network, but an antenna. Network cards use a number of protocols called IEEE 802. 11, popularly known as Wireless LAN or Wi-Fi. Bluetooth is another method of wireless communication, usually over a short distance.

Sound Card

sound card

Sound Card is used to provide sound to your system. The main purpose of the sound card is to provide sound through multimedia speakers, headphones, and a mike attached to the system. The sound card can be used to record sound as well as play music from CD's or it can play sound files from Hard Disk.

Display Card /Graphics card

The display card is used to connect the monitor to the system. Without the display card one will not get the monitor screen. Four types of display cards are used in the system.
