High-Level Programming Language

High level languages (Third generation language/3GL)
   
      The assembly language was easier to use compared with machine language as it relived the programmer from the burden of remembering the operation code and address of memory location. Even through the assembly proved to be great help to the programmer, a search was continued for developing better language close to the conventional English language. The languages developed which were almost similar to the English language. The languages developed which were almost similar to English language for writing the programs in 1960 were known as high level languages. The different high level languages which can be used by common users are FORTRAN, COBOL, BASIC, PASCAL, PL-1 and many others. Each high level languages was developed to fulfil some basic requirements for particular type of problems.
